It’s Raining Kids Hallelujah

Flo and I would like to extend our hearty congratulations to the winners of this year’s Baby Lottery:

1. Micha and Annette Hack of Germany (baby number 3!)
2. Timo and Ruth Hack of Manchester, England (baby number 1!)
3. Sebastian and Lea Marcard of Rübgarten, Germany (baby number 1!)
4. Jeremy and Bonnie Drowne of Old Chatham, New York (baby number 1!)

These happy couples will be receiving their children sometime this summer and we can’t wait. That means Flo and I will become first-time German Onkel und Tante (at least, first official time, where there’s family involved instead of just friends so good they’re like family) and, while I have a niece and nephew from my sister in America, I unfortunately don’t have much contact with them, so we’re looking forward to more offspring on that side of the ocean. Then we can practice changing diapers over the internet, burping over the internet, cleaning up spit-up over the internet – we’ll be the cyber family!

They say when it rains, it pours and that really seems to be the case with these babies going around. Two of our friends had little girls within the last three months and another friend, in America, is due in the next couple months. No, no, we’re not pregnant and don’t plan on it just yet (much to my Nanny’s chagrin). We thought we’d wait til all these little tykers came out and then we can be more specific on our order – you know, what we want, what we don’t. For instance, no babies that look like trolls (saw one, for real), no babies that poop non-stop, only babies that are content, etc.

So I don’t know, maybe all y’all pregnant people wanna get a tips forum or something up here… a baby-stuff-swap-site. And so in June, stay tuned, because I hope to get video of Lea and Bonnie doing the pregnant woman dance together at Benni and Annka’s wedding!

It looks like the stork will be busy this year!

    Best wishes to all!

Congrats to both on Bonnie & Jeremy’s news. As you both know by now, being an Aunt/Uncle is a pretty sweet gig. You always get to feel young since “Aunt” doesn’t imply any age above 20, and you canspoil them all the same.

By which I mean, society will expect you to be at least 25, with an older sibling, but otherwise they won’t care. Whereas “Grandparents” get to have fun and spoil grandkids when they hang out, they are kind of stuck with the age-setting label.
